Happy snowy Sunday

Well it's been awhile. I've been so busy at my job. Wendy is still in the hospital meaning I've had to do extra shifts with her besides my regular ones. I've just about finished writing up my Christmas cards. I've started a bit of Christmas shopping. Friday nite Barb and I went to the anuual craft fair at the Ag. Rec. center. We were very dissapointed that everything was so expensive. It's not like it used to be. It was pouring rain so we took our disappointments to Afterthoughts and indulged in coconut cheese cake. yum. Yesterday I stayed home and slept after doing a nite shift the night before. In the evening George shoveled the driveway and Barb and I went down the street to check on Nick and Maria and their family. Nick is still hanging on but very week.(Nick is dying of cancer). This morning we decided to stay home from Church. We needed milk, so George and I bundled up and walked to McDonald's for lunch and then to Funk's to pick up milk. It was snowing and so beautiful walking back. Then Barb convinced me to go outside and help her build a snowman. The snow was too powdery but we made special needs snowman and made snow angels. I call it making memories. Now I have to get ready on my day off to go to sit with Wendy at the hospital for the next 5 hours. The Lord bless you all in this coming week.

fourty years of marriage

Today we celebrate 40 years of marriage. There have been many good times and also there have been difficult times, but we have perservered well. This has been only by the grace of God. We didn't go away this year because we went on a Mexican cruise last November instead. So we celebrated a year earlier. We have great memories. I had to work 4 hours on Friday nite staying with Wendy at the hospital. Apparently the docotor disovered an irregular heart beat. Yesterday I made a beautiful roast dinner with all the trimmings and we had an M&M too tall chocolate truffle cake for dessert. We go out to eat a lot so I thought it would be more meaningful to make a nice meal. George really appreciated it. Later in the evvening Barb and I walked down the road to our neighbours, Nick and Maria. We were concerned about them. Nick is dying of prostate cancer and we found out the doctor is giving him about three weeks to live. Please pray for the family. They really love the Lord but this is a difficult time for the youngest girl, Nicky. She is only eleven years old. This morning we had communion at Church. It was really a beautiful service. For anniversay pictures check Barb's blog. Maybe one of these days I'll buy a digital camera of my own . Have a happy day.

What a great day

Yesterday was such a great day. It was really perfect. I slept in and then Roxy and I went and sat out under the grapevine with my jacket on and let the sun warm our faces. At lunchtime I got this great idea to go to White rock. I didn't have to persuade anyone. We packed up gloves , leftover halloween snacks and took Barb's new Christmas CD which she got from her chemo angel Brenda. We played that music all the way in and sang along with it. It was nice at White Rock because hardly anyone was there. It was a bit chilly at first but we soon warmed up walking along the boardwalk. The water was stirring quite a bit and I went and felt it. As we were walking we saw a woman about 50 years old or so, very suntanned doing the hoola hoop. She smiled and we waved at her. Then we also saw the passenger train up close. We waved and the train blew it's whistle several times causing several car alarms to go off. That was quite interesting. We walked for a little over an hour and on the way back the lady was still doing the hoola hoop. We decided to go to the only fish and chip place that was open and sat outside and enjoyed our meal. We drove home to the sound of the Christmas music. For pictures see Barb's blog. I forgot to mention that in the in the morning George went out and came home with a beautiful large bouquet of flowers for our anninversay Thank you George. I must say what a lovely day.

It's all good

It seems I'm known for that little phrase at my job. I didn't realize how often I say "it's all good". Now my co-workers walk around the house and say "as Marge would say."it's all good." It's been a good week end so far. Yesterday morning when I got to work I was pleasantly surprised that the night shift person had all the clients fed and prepared for the day. NICE. Then a gal that used to work there phoned up and asked if she could pick up Carl (a client) and take him out for the morning. NICE. Then a friend from another group home phoned and said "we're all coming for lunch but we are bringing the lunch." NICE. True to form they made the most delcious rice and pork dish for 15 people. Then Ellen insisted I take the leftovers home for my family for supper.NICE. Then my friend Mary also came for lunch and made a big container of date squares. She said she had been thinking of me and knows they are one of my favorites. When she went home she cut me about half the pan and said to take them home for supper.NICE .I was going to do the client's journaling at the end of the shift when my co-worker said she had done all but one. She just left me one journal. NICE. I came home and was pleasantly surprised by a little visit from Sonya and Gary. And being such a good son-in-law he brought us some deer pepperoni which was absolutely delicious.NICE. This morning after Church service our friends Speed and Linda invited us out to Swiss Chalet for lunch and insisted on treating us.NICE. So I say "it's all good". Note: We ran into Andrea's brother Steve coming from Starbucks. I told him he was missed last nite. He said He and the Voth boys were watching the hockey game at his place. I guess the saying " hockey rules' is true. LOL. I hope you all have a good one.

Am interesting surprise

Yesterday when I came home from night shift, it was pouring rain. I figured I would stay up and make chicken soup. Well I go out to the freezer and bring back a bagof chicken breasts. I open it up and remove a couple of large pieces of chicken. AsI go to close it, I'm wondering what is that gold string. Upon inspection it is a frozen gold neck chain. Yes, you heard me right. Well I unthawed it out and took a close look at it. We all agreed it was nice. Finally Barb convinced me to go and have it checked out for value. It turns out it was not real gold, but gold plated. The clerk at the jewellery store admitted it was still a fine chain. It was in the bag open making me think some poor girl was wearing it on the assembly line and it fell off. So that's the story about my chicken chain. In the afternoon I went with George to the specialist. He has to go for some tests (nothing serious). Nov.21st he will have day surgery. Today I came home again from night shift and slept an hour , had lunch and then the three of us went to my friend Lynne's memorial. It was awsome. I took mental notes for when it's my turn. Great eulogy. Great worship. Then the band played Lynnes favorite songs and I thought we were at a revival meeting. I never heard such a great drumroll when we all belted out "Do Lord or Do Lord". When we sang"I'll fly away to Glory" I thought surely at that moment God was going to open the heavens and snatch us all home. The city provided all the food because Jim had worked for them so long and believe you me it was some spread . Thank you City of Abbotsford. In the evening Barb and I went to warehouse one . She wanted to buy a top with her gift certificate but we came home empty handed. Well I better get some rest. Tomorrow morning it's back to work. Wendy is still in the hospital and my manager flew off tonight to Australia for a month. Am I jealous? Yes. Well Karen, here's to you and kangaroos. Have a good weekend all of you.

halloween

This year Barb bought the halloween treats. She must have bought enough for 150 kids. Then 9 kids show up at the door. They were all suckers and I'm not a big fan of suckers. At my work, the manager told me the bag had 90 treats. (good ones too) and she told me to be generaous at the door. Well I was working with my friend Mary who is my age. She loves O Henry bars a lot. So when kids came to the door we gave them the glossette raisins. She also likes peanuts so we kept them for ourselves as well. There were 40 kids. She said
we probably should treat ourselves so I ate 3 and thought she had too. Later she confessed when I was busy she had eaten two more. When it was time to go home she said we better each take some treats home so the manager would think we had been generous with the kids.Being a good team player I took some(not telling how many) home. YUMMY! This afternoon Barb and I went to the Rancho for the hospitals auxillary tea and craft sale. We met my friend Ruth Dick there. I bought myself some pink knitted slippers. After supper Barb and George went to Walmart and when they came back George handed me this big orange box and said he bought me a present. I couldn't believe it. He bought me a box of 70 halloween treats, mostly chocolate bars. They were cheap apparently. So I will probably be on a sugar high for awhile. I have to get ready for night shift now. I just had 3 chocolate bars and a cup of hot chocolate milk. I think I'm ready for a ten hour shift. Till next time.
